Travelling Tuesday: Farm Life

Travelling Tuesday: Farm Life

Growing up in town, I have always dreamed of living on a farm.

Part of it has to do with the fact that I have always loved animals – and my brain tells me that on a farm I can keep quite a bit more than in town.

Part of it is the quiet.

And part of it is the life style. The wide open spaces for walking and cycling and driving. The coal stove in the kitchen and the early morning coffee on the stoep. The promise of a good raining season and the time spent on knees during the dry years. The humbleness. The dependency. But also the freedom. The contrast.

A few years ago we had the privilege to spend Christmas day on a farm of friends of ours.

It was a day of quiet.

Of driving around.

Of staring at the clouds.

Of looking for life.

Enjoying the promise of new life.

Of eating and drinking.

Of freedom.

Returning home, we all were tired, but refreshed. I had new hopes and new dreams.

Farm life. One day.
