Making Friends

I grew up with a cat (that I cannot really remember) and a whole pack of really small dogs. We called them Maltese, but today I know better. There may have been Maltese somewhere in their bloodline, but Maltese we definitely did not have.
Later the pack became a bit more varied but the dog-size remained more or less the same. When my sister was in high school, she decided to add to the family and smuggled a cat into the house. Of course, by the time dad smelled the cat, he could no longer say no. And so we became cat and dog people.
As a young adult, I adopted a dog (The Lady – Penguin) and when we moved to Otji, we adopted The Tramp – Rufous… A little more than a year ago Dipstick joined our household and so my husband and I also became cat and dog people.
With the arrival of our son we were worried about our animals and how they would react. Well, our dogs don’t pay much attention yet… I suspect that will change the moment our little¬† boy starts to moooove… But for the last week or so, Dipstick started to investigate until today when she finally decided he is a save bet for a good snuggle.
